Samsung has announced a limited-edition Galaxy Note 8 styled after the 2018 Winter Olympics being held in PyeongChang. Samsung is known for its association with the Olympics games and had launched a limited edition smartphone during the Rio Olympics back in 2016.

In order to commemorate the Winter Olympic games, the limited edition Galaxy Note 8 will feature a ‘shiny white’ back. The iconic golden Olympic rings are placed near the bottom of the headset. Samsung is also customizing the S Pen with white and gold accents that match the overall Winter theme of the device. Not much has changed in the special edition of the Galaxy Note 8 featuring a custom PyeongChang 2018 themed wallpaper with black background.

“Throughout our 20-year legacy as an Olympic partner, Samsung has showcased our support of the Olympic Movement by helping spread the Olympic Spirit and enhance connections through our latest technological innovations and immersive experiences,” said Younghee Lee, CMO and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics.

The only way to get your hands on one of these limited-edition Galaxy Note 8 handsets is by being one of the 4,000+ athletes participating in the Winter Olympics. Samsung says the limited edition Galaxy Note 8 will help athletes stay connected, capture and share “one of the most memorable moments of their lives.”

Samsung will also give the limited edition Galaxy Note 8 to Paralympians participating at the Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. Their phones will come bundled with cases that feature the Paralympic Games logo.

Not much has changed in terms of the device specifications either. The limited edition Galaxy Note 8 features a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display and sports the company’s Infinity Display design with a thinner top and bottom bezel. The smartphone is powered by Exynos 8895 octa-core chipset coupled with Mali-G71 MP20 GPU and 6GB RAM.

It features dual optically stabilized 12-megapixel rear camera setup with primary lens supporting f/1.7 aperture and the secondary telephoto lens supporting f/2.4 aperture and 2x optical zoom. There is an 8-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus and wider f/1.7 aperture. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is backed by a 3,300mAh battery.
