Advanced Smart TV and Smart Control remote: Samsung has introduced a new Smart TV user experience featuring a revamped Smart Hub user interface along with a new Smart Control remote. Perhaps the biggest highlight of the announcement is the new Smart Control remote, which aims to consolidate multiple remote controls into one. This means you can connect set-top-boxes, OTT boxes, Blu-ray players, game consoles as well as other smart connected devices through this Tizen-based remote control.

Samsung is taking its partnership with Amazon rather seriously. After partnering on the HDR10+ system wherein Amazon will produce HDR content that will be streamed on Samsung’s 4K TVs, the South Korean company has now announced support for Amazon Prime Music on all its smart TVs. The development was first reported by Korea IT Times. This makes Samsung smart TVs the first third-party device to stream Amazon’s music library. At present, only Amazon Echo and Alexa-enabled devices do that.

Amazon Prime Music would also be available on all of Samsung’s audio devices, including sound bars and wireless speakers — first in the US and then in the UK, Germany, Austria, France, Italy and Spain. This is because Prime Music reaches only certain geographies for now. Incidentally, the service is expected to roll out in India soon, now that the Amazon Echo series is here. Both Amazon Music Unlimited and Prime Music will be “fully integrated into Samsung’s Smart Hub,” the report added.

All Samsung Smart TV consumers, starting with the QLED TV owners, who are also Amazon Music subscribers can browse through recommendations, playlists, stations and music libraries directly on their television using the Samsung One Remote. “Samsung’s Smart TVs are designed to bring everything users want into a single, seamless experience—from live television and sports to streamed shows, movies, music, and more. We’re thrilled to be among the first to let consumers stream Amazon Music directly from their televisions,” Salek Brodsky, VP of Content & Services at Samsung Electronics America stated.

The functionality, however, is limited to Samsung TV models launched in and beyond 2015. Meanwhile, Samsung already allows music streaming through Spotify on its smart TVs. With Amazon Music now, users not only get more choice but also access to a huge library of ad-free music without having to own an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot device. Samsung has said that the service will be “available starting this month”, and is included in the $99/year Prime membership. The Korean manufacturer also recently rolled out support for YouTube TV.
