Samsung revamped the UI on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ to refine the user experience. Home screen rotation is one feature that Samsung added to the Experience Launcher, enabling the use in landscape mode. Now, Samsung has updated the Experience Launcher for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 devices which brings the home screen rotation feature.

Spotted by XDA Developers, the option is available under Settings, Home screen settings. Here, you’ll find a new option called “Portrait Mode Only,” which when toggled on, will lock the screen orientation. Sadly, the option to enable landscape mode doesn’t appear for everyone. We tried it on our Galaxy Note 8, and could not find the option. It is likely that Samsung is rolling out the feature in phases.

The changelog mentions that the launcher is built targeting Android 8.1 Oreo OS, and it is likely that the Galaxy Note 9, which is launching on August 9, will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. Before the Samsung Experience Launcher, Samsung brought the video lockscreen feature from the Galaxy S9 to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 devices.

Samsung also recently released the Galaxy S9 exclusive features for the S8 and Note 8 phones. This includes the Always On Display that added GIF support. Now all eyes are on the Galaxy Note 9 which is expected to come with an improved S Pen stylus with Bluetooth support. Rumors hint that with Bluetooth support, you could control music playback and camera shutter remotely.
