It’s no secret that Samsung is currently working on a foldable smartphone that the company is planning to launch early next year. For the last few months, the smartphone had gotten somewhat the same amount of traction with rumors as the Galaxy Note 9, gearing towards its launch. But while there was no official word on the device, Samsung’s CEO DJ Koh recently confirmed to Forbes that the company is not only making a foldable smartphone but is also eager to introduce it in the market.

DJ Koh was quoted saying that Samsung is “focusing on developing innovations that will be genuinely accepted and liked by consumers.” He also believes that Samsung is currently in a race with other smartphone manufacturers and would very well like to be the first company to lead such an innovation in the market. This should probably help Samsung get some its edge back over Chinese brands like Oppo and Vivo, who have both launched bezel-less smartphones that feature pop-up cameras.

Further DJ Koh also states that foldable smartphone will not just be a one-off concept. It will in fact be the beginning of the new series of smartphones that is touted to be called Galaxy F. He states that, “We wouldn’t have started [the project] if it was a going to be a one-time thing.” This could possibly mean that Samsung will start a new flagship series that the company might refresh every year just like the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S series. With Samsung planning to launch the foldable smartphone early next year, there is a good chance that the device might just be unveiled at CES 2019 next year in January. However, nothing can be confirmed yet.

That said, the Galaxy F isn’t the only radical device Samsung plans to introduce next year. The company is also said to be focusing on the Galaxy S10, which will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Galaxy S-series. And while it might not bring in the same innovation as a foldable screen, the smartphone is expected to come with some high-end and possibly never seen before features. Not just that, rumors have also claimed Samsung to launch three Galaxy S10 devices next year, in order to meet different price brackets. The devices are said to be unveiled in February.
