Earlier rumors hinted at two variants of the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) smartphone with one model offering dual-SIM support. Contrary to the latest leaks, it was earlier speculated that the smartphone will feature a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and draw its juice from a 3,300mAh battery with fast charging support. It had been also speculated that it will run TouchWiz UI over Android Marshmallow 6.0. However, given that the newer smartphones would most likely run the latest Android version, it is unlikely Samsung will stick to an older OS for the 2017 edition of the smartphone.
As a report on PhoneArena notes, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) will be USB Type-C based. Other features include a fingerprint scanner which will come layered in the home button. The smartphone could also be water resistant with IP68 certification rating which suggests the device can be submerged in up to 10-feet of water for about 30 minutes without any damage. It is speculated to be priced around 2,699 Yuan (Rs 26,200 approximately). In comparison, the predecessor – Galaxy A5 (2016) – is priced in India at Rs 21,900.
The 2016 edition of the smartphone comes with a 5.2-inch display and is powered by a 1.6GHz octa-core chipset paired with Mali-T720 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It includes 16GB of internal storage which is further expandable via microSD card slot. It comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera along with a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. Keeping the smartphone ticking is a 2,900mAh battery. On the software front, the Galaxy A5 (2016) runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop wrapped under TouchWiz UI.
It is further expected that Samsung will also unveil the 2017 edition of other smartphones from its A series including the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) and the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017), along with the Galaxy J7 (2017).
