Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) goes on sale in South Korea: Price, specifications and features

Unveiled last month, Samsung’s Galaxy A8 (2016) has gone in sale in South Korea. The smartphone is an upgraded version of the Galaxy A7 (2016), which was launched in India in February this year.


Samsung last month unveiled the Galaxy A8 (2016) smartphone. The Galaxy A8 (2016) is successor to the Galaxy A8, which had launched in India in August last year for Rs 32,500. Pre-orders for the latest Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) had begun in South Korea on October 1, and now the smartphone has gone up for sale. In South Korea, the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) is currently being sold exclusively through local network carrier SK Telecom, and is priced at 649,000 Won, which translates to approximately Rs 39,000. Like rumored earlier, the new Galaxy A8 s design does imitate the Galaxy S7 quite a bit. The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) is a combination of several new and old features that are already being offered by Samsung smartphones. As compared to the last year s Galaxy A8, the successor features upgraded battery power, more memory space and advanced cameras. The smartphone features the same set of chipset and RAM as on the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5. Other than that, the new Samsung Galaxy A8 comes with Samsung Pay support, which means that the home button that sits under the display of the phone, doubles as a fingerprint sensor. Samsung Galaxy A8 specifications

The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) features a 5.7-inch full HD (1080p) Super AMOLED display, supporting Samsung s Always-On Display technology. It features a full metal design and has a 7.2mm profile, which is slightly thicker than the last year s Galaxy A8, the slimmest smartphone is Samsung s handset portfolio, with a thickness of 5.9mm. Under the hood runs an octa-core Exynos 7420 chipset and 3GB RAM, the same combination of chipset and RAM found in the Galaxy S6 family of phones. Also, it comes with 32GB of native storage, which can be expanded to up to an additional 256GB through the microSD card.

On the camera front, the new Galaxy A8 features 8-megapixel front facing camera and a 16-megapixel rear camera, with f/1.9 aperture, autofocus sensor, and LED flash. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS wrapped under Samsung s custom UI, the same software found on the Galaxy Note 7. Additionally, the new Galaxy A8 is fuelled by a 3,300mAh battery.

To recap, last year s Samsung Galaxy A8 flaunted a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, and was powered by a Exynos 5430 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone also featured a 16-megapixel f/1.9 autofocus rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 120 degrees wide-angle lens, and a 3,050mAh battery. Like this year s Galaxy A8 smartphone, its predecessor too featured a fingerprint scanner. The smartphone went on sale in India in August last year for Rs 25,990.

If launched at the same price in India, the Galaxy A8 (2016) will compete against the likes of OnePlus 3 and LeEco Le Max 2 among others. Launched this year in June, the OnePlus 3 flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920 1080 pixels) AMOLED display, protected by Corning s Gorilla Glass 4. On the photography front, the OnePlus 3 is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel fixed focus selfie camera. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the software front, it runs on OxygenOS based on Android Marshmallow 6.1. It is fueled by 3,000mAh battery.

In the same segment, the LeEco Le Max 2, features a 5.7-inch QHD display. It is powered by Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor, with 4GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. On the photography front, it sports a 21-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. Additionally, the smartphone is fueled by a 3,100mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 feature.
