The Galaxy A8+ (2018) was launched alongside Galaxy A8 (2018) last month in South Korea and it is the direct replacement to last year’s Galaxy A7 series. The Galaxy A8+ (2018) will likely compete with Honor View10, OnePlus 5T and Nokia 8 in India. The smartphone brings some of the features found on company’s premium Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note8 series to the mid-range price segment. The highlight of the Galaxy A8+ (2018) is the Infinity Display design first seen on Galaxy S8 last year. The Galaxy A8+ (2018) features metal and glass with thin bezels surrounding the display. It sports a large 6-inch Super AMOLED display with 2220 x 1080 pixel resolution and 18.5:9 aspect ratio.
The smartphone is powered by company’s own Exynos 7885 octa-core chipset clocked at 2.2GHz coupled with Mali-G71 GPU. The smartphone was launched in two storage options: 4GB RAM variant with 32GB storage and 6GB RAM variant with 64GB storage. It also supports expandable storage up to 256GB via dedicated SD card slot.
The Galaxy A8+ (2018) is also the first smartphone from the company to feature dual front camera setup. It sports a combination of 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel cameras with f/1.9 aperture at the front while the rear features a single 16-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture. With the dual front cameras, Samsung is directly taking on Oppo and Vivo, who have billed their devices as ultimate selfie cameras.
Other features include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and 4G LTE with VoLTE support. It features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and it is placed right below the camera module. The smartphone runs TouchWiz UI based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is backed by a 3,500mAh battery.
The Galaxy A8+ (2018) is IP68 water and dust resistant and supports Samsung Pay contactless mobile payment solution. The smartphone will be available in black, orchid grey, gold and blue color options. The selling point of Galaxy A8+ (2018) will be its premium design and improved camera but competing devices also offer better specifications at competitive price.
