Soon after launching the flagship Galaxy Note 9 in India, Samsung has unveiled two new smartphones today – the Galaxy J2 Core and the Galaxy A8 Star. While the Galaxy J2 Core is an Android Go smartphone, the Galaxy A8 Star will be competing in the premium mid-range segment.
The Galaxy A8 Star from Samsung comes with a front and back glass design, Infinity Display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio, and dual cameras at the back. For security, it comes with a fingerprint scanner at the back, and face unlock feature. Samsung has also added Bixby voice assistant and Samsung Pay with NFC technology for cashless payments.

The Galaxy A8 Star will set you back by Rs 34,990, and it will be available exclusively via Amazon India starting August 27. Buyers will also be able to avail easy EMI option among other offers that will be revealed later. At this price range, the new Samsung device will take on the likes of OnePlus 6, Asus Zenfone 5Z, and Poco F1.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star specifications and features
The smartphone flaunts a tall 6.3-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC with an octa-core CPU where four cores are clocked at 2.2GHz and the remaining four cores are clocked at 1.8GHz. The chipset is paired with 6GB of RAM, and 64GB onboard storage that is expandable using a microSD card slot.
In the photography department, you get a dual-camera setup at the back – a primary 16-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture accompanied with a second 24-megapixel camera of f/1.7 aperture. Up front is a 24-megapixel camera for selfies, video calling, and face unlock. The camera software also includes smart beauty mode to make you look good in your selfies, AR Stickers to add a dash of creativity, and pro-lighting that will illuminate the screen to capture brighter selfies in low-light.
To keep things ticking, the smartphone comes with a 3,700mAh battery with fast charging at 1.67A, which is slower than other fast charging technologies available out there. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB Type-C for charging and data transfer. The smartphone runs Android Oreo OS with Samsung Experience UI on top.
