Samsung Galaxy A8 Star price in India leaked ahead of official launch

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy A8 will go head-to-head with the OnePlus 6.

After the flagship Galaxy Note 9, Samsung is preparing to launch a new smartphone in India. A comprehensive teaser page recently went live on Amazon India, all but confirming that the upcoming smartphone is the Galaxy A8 Star, which has already been available in some other countries around the world for quite some time now.

Apart from highlighting some key aspects of the Amazon India-exclusive smartphone, the teaser also bears a clue  – Rs 3X,XXX – about the Galaxy A8 Star’s price. Now, a new report has surfaced to fill in those Xs, claiming that the smartphone will launch in India at a price of Rs 34,990. The information comes courtesy of MySmartPrice, with the publication claiming that their information comes from “a trusted source”.

If that’s indeed the Galaxy A8 Star’s price in India, Samsung’s upcoming smartphone will go directly against the current leader in the segment – OnePlus 6. It’s worth mentioning that the Galaxy A8 Star is an upper mid-range smartphone, while the OnePlus 6 comes with flagship-grade hardware. It seems that the Galaxy A8 Star will continue Samsung’s tradition of charging ‘brand tax’ for it smartphones.

We already know what the Galaxy A8 Star will bring in terms of hardware. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The dual-SIM smartphone has a hybrid slot that can accept microSD cards of up to 512GB. It runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box, with Samsung’s Experience UX overlay baked on top.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star isn’t exactly a compact smartphone. It features a 6.3-inch FullHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a resolution 1080×2220 pixels, and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

For imaging, the Galaxy A8 Star features a dual-camera system at the back. It’s comprised of a 24-megapixel sensor and a 16-megapixel sensor, each with an f/1.7 aperture. Up front, you get a 24-megapixel (f/2.0) for selfies and video calls.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star has all the connectivity options you’d expect in a 2018 smartphone, ranging from Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac to USB Type-C. There’s also a 3.5mm audio port and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. A 3,700mAh battery backs up the entire package.
