Samsung today launched its slimmest Galaxy smartphone in India, the Galaxy A8. Priced at Rs 32,500, the smartphone features an all metal body and a fingerprint scanner. Design is one of Galaxy A8’s talking points, and at 5.9mm, is the slimmest smartphone in Samsung’s lineup. It boasts a near bezel-less design, and an ultra-thin metal-clad body as well. The overall design language is a big change over the existing Galaxy A-series smartphones, and is instead more in line with the Galaxy S6. As far as specifications are concerned, the Galaxy A8 sports a 5.7-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display. Under the hood is a Exynos 5430 octa-core processor ( paired with 2GB of RAM. Samsung has launched the 32GB variant of the Galaxy A8 in India, which can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. One of the SIM card slots in the Galaxy A8 is a hybrid slot, which means it can be either used for a SIM card or a microSD card. In the photography department, the Galaxy A8 includes a 16-megapixel autofocus f/1.9 rear camera, supplemented with a 5-megapixel selfie camera upfront with a 120 degrees wide-angle lens.
The smartphone also features a 3,050mAh battery that the company claims is good enough for about 304 hours on standby mode, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC and Bluetooth 4.1. On the software front, it runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box.
Samsung has partnered with Airtel and would provide a double data plan, which offers double the data of your current data plan for a limited period.
