After Apple launched the iPhone X, a lot of Android OEMs such as Lenovo, Huawei, Nokia, and LG, to name a few, embraced the notched-display. However, Samsung continued with its Infinity Display on mid-range and flagship smartphones. But, in the battle towards offering a better screen-to-body ratio, the inevitable had to happen. As a result, the Samsung Galaxy A8s gets the Infinity-O display with an in-screen selfie snapper.

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy A8s in China, and it is set to go on pre-order starting December 21. There is no word on the pricing or availability outside China, but considering Samsung’s focus on the Indian smartphone market, we can expect the smartphone to make it to the Indian shores. Price wise, it is likely to be placed in the upper mid-range bracket.

One of the highlights of the Galaxy A8s is the distinctive Infinity-O display with a “hole-punch” design. Basically, the company has gotten rid of the notch, and the screen incorporates a selfie camera hole on the upper left corner. The panel is made from metal whereas the back has a glass finish. It will be available in gradient colors of Blue, Gray and Green. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core SoC, paired with 6GB / 8GB RAM options, and 128GB storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card slot.

Another highlight of the Galaxy A8s is its triple-rear camera setup, which includes a 24-megapixel primary sensor (f/1.7 aperture), a secondary 10-megapixel telephoto lens (f/2.4 aperture), and a third 5-megapixel depth sensor of aperture f/2.2. For selfies and video calling, you get a 24-megapixel sensor of f/2.0 aperture.

With a fingerprint scanner at the back, and a 3,400mAh battery, the smartphone supports adaptive fast charging over USB Type-C, Android 8.1 Oreo OS and Samsung Experience UI on top. Usual connectivity options such as dual SIM card slots, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE with VoLTE are present too.
