In terms of design, all four phones look very different from each other. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy A9 is only smartphone out of the lot which doesn’t pack a ‘notch’ display. The glass-metal combination design is common factor between three phones except Poco F1, which uses polycarbonate as primary element. OnePlus has introduced similar OnePlus 6-like design on the 6T, except it has ditched headphone jack and there is no fingerprint sensor at the back.

Talking about the display, Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) boats of a 6.3-inch full-HD+ Infinity Display without a notch, which is a Super AMOLED panel and offers 18.5:9 aspect ratio. OnePlus 6T comes with a 6.4-inch full HD+ panel with 1080x2340pixels resolution, and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The notch on 6T is much smaller, like the Oppo F9 Pro. Coming to Poco F1, it sports a 6.18-inch full-HD+ 18.7:9 aspect ratio screen with a large notch. Lastly, the Asus Zenfone 5Z comes with 6.2-inch full-HD+ panel featuring 18:9 aspect ratio, and a notch similar to Poco F1.

Chipset, RAM and storage

Samsung Galaxy A9 is the only smartphone in this comparison which packs a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, while all other smartphones – OnePlus 6T, Poco F1 and Asus Zenfone 5Z – are powered by Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 845 SoC. While the Samsung Galaxy A9 and OnePlus 6T now starts with 128GB storage as the base variant, the other two still come with 64GB/ 128GB/ 256GB storage options. Samsung for its top-end variant of 8GB RAM also offers 128GB storage option only, while others come with 256GB RAM option as well. OnePlus has also kept a 256GB storage model paired with 8GB RAM. The Poco F1 and Asus Zenfone 5Z also share similar 6GB/ 8GB SKUs like the OnePlus with a different storage option.

In the photography department, Samsung has taken a huge leap by adding two extra cameras at the back of Galaxy A9. It boasts of a quad-camera setup at the back, which is first of its kind for any smartphone. This setup includes a 24-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, 10-megapixel telephoto lens offering 2x optical zoom, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor of f/2.2 aperture.

Other phones – OnePlus 6T, Poco F1 and Asus Zenfone 5Z – include dual-rear camera setup only. The OnePlus 6T comes with dual cameras at the back, which includes a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 20-megapixel secondary sensor (telephoto lens), both featuring f/1.7 aperture. Up front, there is a 16-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling.

As for the Poco F1, it comes with a 12-megapixel primary camera along with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor to add depth-of-field effects to your photos. Xiaomi has also added AI tweaks with scene detection and portrait mode to help you capture better photos. There is also a 20-megapixel front camera with AI beauty mode.

Coming to the Asus Zenfone 5Z, its dual-rear camera setup includes a 12-megapixel + 8-megapixel sensors, and an 8-megapixel front camera. The second rear camera of 8-megapixel resolution has a wide-angle 120-degrees field of view which lets you capture more from a scene similar to Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018).

Face Unlock is standard in all four smartphones. Talking about fingerprint scanner, the Samsung Galaxy A9, Asus Zenfone 5Z and Poco F1 do have a fingerprint scanner at the back, while OnePlus 6T has incorporated latest technology in the market. OnePlus 6T comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, which works through the screen of the phone and has 0.34ms unlock time.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 comes with Android 8.0 Oreo-based Samsung Experience UX.
