Samsung might beat Chinese smartphone makers Huawei and Oppo to launch a smartphone with four cameras on the back. According to a new leak from SamsungMobile.News, the South Korean giant will launch its first smartphone with quad camera setup, likely to be called the Galaxy A9 Star Pro, on October 11.
Samsung has already sent out media invites for an event on October 11 in Malaysia where the Galaxy A9 Star Pro will be made official. The company has been teasing this upcoming launch with a teaser that reads “4X Fun”. The new leak claims that all the four cameras will be stacked vertically on the left hand corner of the smartphone. The quad camera setup will be followed by a LED flash placed underneath the camera.
The Galaxy A9 Star Pro (SM-A920) will come with four cameras and will be available in Black, Blue Gradient and Pink Gradient. I recieved some pics of the device: The fingerprint sensor will be placed in the middle. The four cameras will be on the left sinde (vertical) (1/3)

DJ Koh, Samsung’s president of mobile division, had earlier stated that the company will bring new features to its mid-range Galaxy A-series and entry-level Galaxy J-series, before making them available on flagship Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. The company is also said to be working on a new Galaxy A7 smartphone with triple camera setup and side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy A9 Star Pro will be placed in the middle on the back of the device. The leak claims that the smartphone will be offered in three colors: Black, Blue Gradient and Pink Gradient. The introduction of gradient colors to the lineup shows how Samsung is slowly but forcibly answering to the growing reputation of Chinese smartphone makers.
While the smartphone comes in three colors, the camera array is said to be black across all the three models. The Galaxy A9 Star Pro with model number SM-A920 will also have a dedicated Bixby button, found on Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. The leak also claims that the Galaxy A9 Star Pro will have a back panel that will be a bit curved and also include a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Since the launch of Huawei P20 Pro in March of 2018, it has become clear that smartphone makers are looking at packing more camera modules into their mobile devices. The P20 Pro comes with triple rear camera setup while LG is rumored to follow suit with triple camera on the V40 ThinQ next month. There are also rumors of HMD Global working on a smartphone with penta-camera setup while a startup named Light is planning a smartphone with nine cameras on the back.
The Galaxy A9 Star Pro is tipped to hit retail stores with a price tag of $580 (around Rs 42,000). While we don’t know about the function of these four cameras, the price alone might make this a compelling device for mobile photography enthusiasts.
