The Samsung Galaxy C9 had been long rumored to be the next smartphone in the Galaxy C series. Adding confirmation to its news was the recent listing of the Galaxy C9 on China s TENAA and the FCC in the US. The launch seems imminent as a teaser for the smartphone has been spotted online. According to the teaser, the Galaxy C9 will be launched on October 21 in China. Samsung s Galaxy C-series debuted earlier this year in May, with the Galaxy C5 and the Galaxy C7. The teaser was spotted on Weibo, and it shows the Galaxy C9 in dark gray color, which is also available for the Galaxy C5 and Galaxy C7 smartphones. The front of the Galaxy C9 shows the selfie camera and the speaker on top of the display. The back of the smartphone shows the antenna band on top and the rear camera lens with LED flash below it. As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy C9 was recently spotted on TENAA and on the FCC site. The TENAA listing revealed images of the C9, which are akin to the design of the Galaxy C5 and the Galaxy C7. The FCC listing revealed the Galaxy C9 as bearing the model number SM-C9000, which goes along with the previous rumors. The FCC listing also confirmed the massive 4,000mAh battery and connectivity options like 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth v4.2 LE.
As for the rest of its specifications, previous rumors and leaks have given us a rough idea as to what we can expect from the Galaxy C9. To start with, the smartphone is expected to feature a 6-inch full HD Super AMOLED display. Under the hood of the Galaxy C9, an octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor paired with Adreno GPU is expected to run. The Galaxy C9 is expected to come with 6GB of RAM, which if turns out to be true, will make it the first Samsung smartphone to have this amount of RAM. Its onboard storage is expected to be 64GB, which would be further expandable via a microSD card.
As for the cameras, what has been speculated so far is that the Galaxy C9 could sport a 16-megapixel camera both on the front and the back. The rear 16-megapixel camera as shown in the teaser will be equipped with LED flash. On the software front, the Galaxy C9 is expected to run on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box. The expected connectivity options on the Galaxy C9 are 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth 4.2. The Samsung Galaxy C9 is said to be the successor to the Galaxy C7, which was launched this year along with the Galaxy C5. If both the smartphones are compared with the expected specifications, then some changes and improvements can be noticed. For starters, the display size would be bigger as compared to the Galaxy C7 s 5.7-inch display but with the same full HD Super AMOLED display. The expected 6GB of RAM would be a big improvement from the existing 4GB in the Galaxy C7. The Galaxy C7 also sports a 16-megapixel rear camera but on the C9, the 16-megapixel cameras are expected to come on both the front and back. The 3,300mAh battery in the Galaxy C7 would also be a huge improvement to the expected 4,000mAh battery in the Galaxy C9. The connectivity options remain the same as in the C7 and the C9.
Samsung launched the Galaxy C7 in China for a price tag of $396 which roughly translates to Rs 26,000 approximately. The Galaxy C5 was launched for a price tag of $330 (Rs 22,100 approximately). The Galaxy C9 will most likely be priced in the existing mid-range segment as well. ALSO READ: Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) receives Wi-Fi certification, to run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow
As mentioned above, Samsung has so far kept the Galaxy C series smartphones China exclusive. However, there could be a change with the upcoming Galaxy C9. Initially, the smartphone was spotted on the Indian import site Zauba which revealed that a Samsung smartphone with the now confirmed model number SM-C9000 and 5.7-inch display size has been shipped to India for testing. Later, the same Galaxy C9 smartphone was spotted on Zauba again but with a different display size of 6-inches. This clearly hints on an India launch for the Galaxy C9.
There have also been rumors that the Galaxy C9 will make it to the US market around mid-November. The launch of the Galaxy C9 follows the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. If the rumors about the specifications of the Galaxy C9 turn out to be true, then we can expect a power-packed phablet from Samsung which would hopefully bring a new change for it in the phablet market.
