Galaxy Grand Neo might be the latest Samsung on the block, but with competition reaching new heights after every product launch, it remains to be seen if the novelty of a Samsung smartphone brings customers shopping for it. Just to show how big the competition is in the market, here we have two other phones in the same price range as the Galaxy Grand Neo — the Sony Xperia C and Lenovo Ideaphone S920. Let’s start with the similarities first. All three phones run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and are powered by quad-core processors, but that’s where the similarities end. Also Read - Galaxy S21 FE to support 25W charging but will Samsung put it in the box?
The Galaxy Grand Neo has a 5-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) screen, while the Sony Xperia C flaunts a qHD (960×540 pixels) display of the same size. The Ideaphone S920, on the other hand, gets a slightly bigger (5.3-inch) display with much better resolution (1280×720 pixels). Powering the Galaxy Grand Neo is a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor, which also powers the Xperia C and Lenovo Ideaphone S920. All three have identical RAM too, 1GB each. Talking about the photographic capabilities, the Xperia C and the Ideaphone S920 lead with 8-megapixel rear cameras supplemented by VGA and 2-megapixel front cameras respectively. The Galaxy Grand Neo though lags behind with a 5-megapixel rear camera and VGA secondary camera.
Where the Samsung trumps though is the storage capacity. With 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card on the Galaxy Grand Neo, it is double of what the other offer — 4GB internal and expandable up to 32GB. On the battery front, both Sony and Lenovo offer marginally bigger batteries for their respective phones compared to the Samsung.
As mentioned above, things look pretty much equal in terms specs and same goes for the pricing too. Launched earlier today, the Galaxy Grand Neo is priced at Rs 18,450, while both the Xperia C and the Ideaphone S920 retail at around Rs 17,500. On paper, Lenovo’s Ideaphone S920 edges ahead of the rest on the back of a superior display and better cameras. But in a segment where brand value matters, the Xperia C will provide a tough competition to Samsung’s Galaxy Grand Neo as it provides a decent set of specs at a lower price and also has the brand power of Samsung.
