Samsung is preparing to challenge the likes of Xiaomi and Honor with the launch of four new smartphones. The South Korean consumer electronics giant has sent media invites for an event on May 21 which reads, ‘Say Hello to Infinity and More.’ The invite strongly hints at the launch of new Galaxy J and Galaxy A series smartphones in the country. The leaked reports so far indicate that Samsung is planning two Galaxy J and two Galaxy A series models. The company is expected to launch the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+ smartphones with Infinity Display alongside the Galaxy J4 and Galaxy J6 smartphones. The leaks so far suggest that the Galaxy J6 (2018) will be the first smartphone in the Galaxy J series to get the Infinity Display design and taller aspect ratio. The industry reports indicate all the four models will be ‘Made in India’ and the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+ could be priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 while the Galaxy J-series will target the entry-level and mid-range segment with a price tag between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000. The highlight of these devices set to launch on May 21 will be the Infinity Display design.

The Infinity Display design is Samsung‘s language of defining its modern smartphone design with thinner bezels and taller display. The design first debuted with the launch of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ last year. It was later extended to Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy A8 smartphones as well. The design was last seen on Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ launched in February and the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+ smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy A6 (2018) and Galaxy A6+ (2018) are even cheaper alternatives to Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) smartphones. The Galaxy A6 (2018) and Galaxy A6+ (2018) feature 5.6-inch and 6.0-inch displays with a resolution of 1480 x 720 pixels and 2220 x 1080 pixels respectively. The displays on both the smartphones use an AMOLED panel and support the taller aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The Galaxy A6 (2018) is powered by an Exynos 7870 CPU while the Galaxy A6+ (2018) gets Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset.
The Galaxy A6 (2018) and Galaxy A6+ (2018) comes with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The Galaxy A6 (2018) features a 16-megapixel camera at the front as well as rear. The Galaxy A6+ (2018), on the other hand, gets dual rear camera setup with a combination of 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. The Galaxy A6+ (2018) also gets a high resolution 24-megapixel selfie shooter with f/1.9 aperture and LED flash.
The Galaxy A6 (2018) and Galaxy A6+ (2018) both support Samsung Pay but stick with metal casing as opposed to sandwiched glass design on more premium models. The smartphones feature rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and run Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung experience. The Galaxy A6 (2018) packs a 3,000mAh battery while the Galaxy A6+ (2018) houses a larger 3,500mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy J4 and J6 rumored specifications
Samsung Galaxy J6 leaked in the form of official renders yesterday confirming that it will sport an Infinity Display design. The smartphone is expected to feature a 5.6-inch display with a HD+ resolution of 1480 x 720 pixels and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It is also likely to use the same Exynos 7870 SoC found on the Galaxy A6 (2018) model. It could be offered with 2GB, 3GB or 4GB of RAM depending on the market.
On the camera front, it is tipped to feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera with LED flash at the front as well as rear. The Galaxy J6 is expected to run Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung Experience and pack a 3,000mAh battery. The smartphone should be offered with 64GB storage.
The Galaxy J4, on the other hand, is likely to be based on standard Samsung design with a 5.5-inch HD display supporting 16:9 aspect ratio and Exynos 7570 SoC. It is also likely to come in 2GB and 3GB RAM options and feature a 13-megapxiel rear camer and a 5-megapixel selfie camera.
Samsung vs Xiaomi
Samsung, the leader in India’s smartphone market has lost its numero uno position to Xiaomi. The Chinese smartphone maker took that position during the fourth quarter of 2017 and has held onto it during the first quarter of 2018 as well. These new products with modern design can be seen as Samsung’s answer to popularity of Xiaomi’s Redmi series.
