After a series of leaks and rumors, Samsung s Galaxy J3 smartphone has been officially announced. Available in China initially, the smartphone sports a different name though – Galaxy J3 (6). Samsung hasn’t revealed the pricing but considering it is in the J-series and the specifications, we expect it to be a budget Android smartphone. As far as the specifications go, the Galaxy J3 (6) measures 142.3x71x7.9mm and weighs 138 grams. It has a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display. The smartphone is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor along with 1.5GB of RAM. For photography, the J3 (6) comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front facing camera. There s no official information on what version of Android it is running, but reports suggest it is Android Lollipop 5.1.1 out of the box. The phone comes preloaded with a slew of apps such as Milk Music app and a Smart Manager tool. The J3 (6) is powered by a 2,600 mAh battery.
Samsung is said to be focusing on the budget segments with its Galaxy J and Galaxy On series. A few months ago, it launched Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 smartphones in India. While the Galaxy J series targeted the Rs 10,000- Rs 15,000 segment, the Galaxy On5 and On7 are priced between Rs 8,000 and Rs 11,000.
According to reports, Samsung is planning to launch 10 new smartphones under its J series, between a price range of Rs 9,000 and Rs 18,000, in the next six months. The company is looking to further consolidate its base in the smartphone market, particularly 4G budget segment where it faces a strong competition from the likes of Motorola, Lenovo and Xiaomi.
