After unveiling the refreshed Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) and Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) smartphones in China earlier this year, Samsung today launched the smartphones in India. Both the smartphones come with slightly upgraded hardware compared to their predecessors. A few talking points both smartphones are the metal frame design, front-facing cameras with LED flash, 4G LTE connectivity with support for VoLTE. Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016), Galaxy J7 (2016) price: The Galaxy J5 (2016) is priced at Rs 13,990, whereas the Galaxy J7 (2016) is priced at Rs 15,900. Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) specifications and features: It features a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED HD display (720p). At the heart of the Galaxy J5 (2016) is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage. There is also a microSD card slot for further expansion. On the photography front, the smartphone houses a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Both the camera modules have an aperture of f/1.9 and also feature an LED flash. Armed with a 3,100mAh battery, the smartphone packs connectivity options such as dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
At its price point, the Galaxy J5 (2016) goes heads on with the LeEco Le 1s (Eco), Lenovo K4 Note and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, all off which full HD (1080p) displays and slightly higher resolution cameras, while being slightly cheaper.
Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) specifications and features: The Galaxy J7 (2016), on the other hand, is a the elder sibling of the Galaxy J5 (2016). It flaunts a slightly larger 5.5-inch Super AMOLED full HD (1080p) display and is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. A microSD card slot for further expansion is also present.
In the photography department, the Galaxy J7 (2016) is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing unit. Both cameras have an aperture of f/1.9 and also include an LED flash. Armed with 3,300mAh battery, connectivity options on the smartphone include dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE support, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
At its price point, the Galaxy J7 (2016) will compete with the likes of Micromax Canvas 6, Honor 5X and Lenovo Vibe P1. The Canvas 6 also has a slightly larger 8-megapixel front-facing camera and 32GB of onboard storage compared to 16GB on the Galaxy J7 (2016). It is also slightly cheaper making it a tough competitor to the Galaxy J7 (2016). The Vibe P1, on the other hand, has a massive 4,900mAh battery and also comes a fingerprint scanner.
