Along with the Galaxy J7, Samsung today also launched a slightly more affordable Galaxy J5. The smartphone may be priced lower at Rs 11,999, but overall there is very little that differentiates it from the Galaxy J7. We spent some time with the smartphone at the launch event today, and here are our first impressions.
On the design front, the Galaxy J5 looks almost identical to the bigger Galaxy J7. The only way you can differentiate the two is on the basis of their size. Where the Galaxy J7 sports a 5.5-inch display, the Galaxy J5 features a smaller 5-inch display. Another aspect that differentiates the two smartphones is the quality. While the Galaxy J5 sports the same polycarbonate rear panel with a metallic strip, the quality is not on par with the Galaxy J7.
The Galaxy J5 flaunts a 5-inch Super AMOLED HD display, and it is as good as the Galaxy J7. Unlike the latter, the former is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM, which is again just about enough to handle most day-to-day tasks.
One feature that gives it an advantage over rivals like the Xiaomi Mi 4i is the microSD card slot, which can be used to expand the 8GB internal storage. On the photography front, it too features a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel wide angle selfie camera up front along with LED flash.
Despite the Rs 3,000 price gap and the Snapdragon 410 processor, there is not a lot differentiating the Galaxy J5 from the Galaxy J7 as far as overall user experience is concerned. It too has to contend with tough competition from the likes of the Honor 4X, Asus Zenfone 2 and the Xiaomi Mi 4i to name a few. We will have a detailed look at the smartphone in our review. Stay tuned.
