One of the obvious advantages of getting flagship (Android) smartphones is that they are always the first in line to get the latest and greatest OS/security updates. Barring a few exceptions, that s the case with almost all OEMs. And considering how notorious (some) Android manufacturers can be with updates, it s always great to see an update notification pop-up on a budget or mid-range smartphone. According to The Android Soul, Galaxy J5 Prime units in UAE are being seeded the update. The OTA update package, which is around 918MB in size, bears software identifier G570FXXU1CRH9. As is always the case, the rollout is phased, so it may take a while for Galaxy J5 Prime units around the world (including those in India) to get it.
To recall, Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime was launched in India back in 2016, at a price of Rs 14,790. The smartphone originally launched with Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box, so it s great to see it getting bumped up to Android Oreo, despite the fact that even that s dated now, having been superseded by Android Pie.
Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime is powered by a quad-core Exynos SoC, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There s also an expansion slot that can take up microSD cards of up to 256GB. The smartphone has a 5.-inch TFT HD display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. For imaging, there s a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
