Vivo X21 India launch set for May 29

On May 29, Vivo will launch X21 as the first smartphone with under-display fingerprint sensor in the Indian market. The smartphone was previously available only in China and has been extended to Singapore as well.

The X21 is the most premium device in the Chinese smartphone maker’s product portfolio and will serve as the technological progress achieved by it in the past few years. The Vivo X21 features an under-display fingerprint sensor which activates using the active LEDs of the Super AMOLED display. It is ought to be expensive since the technology is nascent at this moment.

Apple to release a $200 HomePod under the Beats umbrella

Apple is planning a cheaper HomePod to take on the likes of Echo from Amazon and Google Home from Alphabet. The new variant is set to cost $199 and will feature familiar Beats branding. However, it will come with the same Siri, which many feel to be handicapped when compared to that of Alexa and Google Assistant.

According to Strategy Analytics, Apple accounted for just 6 percent of global smart speaker sales during the first quarter of 2018 while Amazon accounted for nearly 81 percent. With the cheaper HomePod, Apple might succeed in conjuring up a bit more of the market share.
