After recently launching the Galaxy J7 Prime in Vietnam, Samsung looks all set to launch the smartphone in India. The company has sent out media invites for launch event on September 19, where the smartphone could be launched. The invite has a caption Get ready for the Prime Time and a big J with binary code in it. Samsung also mentions that the next J-series smartphone is more proficient, protected and power-packed than ever. The Galaxy J7 Prime comes with full metal unibody design and fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication, something that was missing from the Galaxy J7 (2016). It also comes with a 2.5D curved screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. A Mumbai-based mobile retailer had recently tipped that the Galaxy J7 Prime could be priced around Rs 18,790. At this price point, the smartphone is likely to go heads on with Gionee s S6s and Oppo F1s, priced at Rs 17,999 and Rs 17,990, respectively. All three smartphones are targeted towards selfie-centric users. While the S6s features an 8-megapixel selfie camera with LED and screen flash, the F1s features a 16-megapixel selfie camera. The Galaxy J7 Prime also comes with an 8-megapixel selfie camera with LED flash.
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime specifications
The smartphone flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) IPS display and 2.5D curved glass. At the heart of the Galaxy J7 Prime runs an Exynos 7870 octa-core processor (eight Cortex A53 cores) clocked at 1.6GHz, paired with Mali-T830MP2 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB of onboard storage as well as a microSD card slot for expansion up to 256GB.
In the photography department, the Galaxy J7 Prime comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/1.9 and an 8-megapixel selfie camera of aperture f/1.9, along with LED flash. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone features 4G LTE with VoLTE voice calling support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and microUSB. Armed with a 3,300mAh battery, the smartphone runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS wrapped under TouchWiz UI out of the box. If we look at the competition, both Gionee S6s and Oppo F1s feature 5.5-inch displays. While the S6s comes with a full HD (1080p) panel, the F1s features an HD (720p) panel. Rest of the specifications of S6s include Mediatek MT6753 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 13-megapixel rear camera and 3,150mAh battery, whereas the F1s is powered by Mediatek MT6750 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 3,075mAh battery. On the connectivity front, both smartphones feature dual-SIM card slots, 4G connectivity, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Besides the Galaxy J7 Prime, some reports also suggest that Samsung may announce the Galaxy J5 Prime. While the smartphone hasn t showed up in any leaks or benchmarking listings, it is expected to come with metal unibody design and slightly bumped up hardware compared to the J5 (2016).
