Most of the key Samsung devices are yet to receive the latest Android Oreo update, including the Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S7 lineup, and the Galaxy Tab S3. Now, the confirmation about the possible roll out of the update later this month has arrived indirectly through a source related to the company. G ncelmiyiz, which is said to be a website owned and operated by Samsung Turkey, has revealed the list of Samsung products to receive the newest Android Oreo. According to SamMobile, Android 8.0 Oreo is the next OS update to reach Galaxy Note 8, and the firmware is in the test phase right now with the ‘planned update date’ on March 30. The website further mentions that the update is also in the test phase for the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge (the last in the ‘Edge’ series), with a planned release date of April 13. Following this will be the update for the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7 (2017), which are planned to receive the update on May 25. The 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S3 will receive the update on May 4.
Though the information is not flowing through official Samsung channels, given the reported legitimacy of the Turkish website, the information may be truthful. However, it is still advisable to take it with the proverbial pinch of salt given Samsung’s track record with firmware updates.
If the updates do roll out on the said date, the rollout to other markets should follow in a few days after the update in Turkey. Last month, an entire list of Samsung devices was reported to receive the update. This was followed by a buggy rollout of the OS to the Galaxy S8 lineup.
Meanwhile, Google’s next-in-line, Android P, is out in its first developer preview. The upcoming OS will grace the third set of Pixel smartphones later this year. Until then, the developer community will be looking at all that is new and improved in the OS. Some of the important features include native support for the notch or cutout, improved notifications, and an overall minimal design. Certain camera enhancements have also been implemented to leverage AI and multi-camera setups.
