Earlier this month, Samsung launched the flagship Galaxy Note 9 smartphone in India which brings some key upgrades over the predecessor, the Galaxy Note 8. It comes with an improved design, more functional S Pen, bigger battery and more. As always, the guys over at iFixit have ripped apart the smartphone to offer a peek at the internals.

Samsung made one of the biggest changes to the Galaxy Note 9 to improve the battery life. After the Galaxy Note 7 battery fiasco, the company has taken a bold step, and added a 4,000mAh battery, which is 700mAh bigger than the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Note 8. But as in case with all smartphones with compact unibody designs, the Galaxy Note 9 also fails to get a low repairability score. The iFixit team has given a low repairability score of 4 out of 10, saying that replacing the battery on the Galaxy Note 9 is difficult.

The team has noted that Samsung has glued the Galaxy Note 9 with strong adhesives. To dissect the smartphone, the team had to use suction, show heat to the smartphone, and then slice the panel open. And because the battery is glued inside to the panel, it is difficult to replace it easily. The higher capacity also makes the battery heavier compared to the Galaxy Note 8.

Even the S Pen, which is now Bluetooth enabled, is difficult to open without damaging the internals. As mentioned above, the battery is difficult to replace as it is glued with adhesives, and the same goes with display repairs too. The components, on the other hand, are modular and easier to remove. One can do that using a standard Philips screw.

The Galaxy Note 9 has already gone on sale in India, with the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage model priced at Rs 67,900, and the higher end variant with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage variant priced at Rs 84,900. The smartphone comes with AI dual cameras at the back, an 8-megapixel front camera, iris scanner, a fingerprint scanner and face unlock feature.
