Samsung Galaxy Note 9 launched in India; to go on sale starting August 24

Samsung's newest flagship phablet comes with an improved S Pen and bigger battery among other improvements.

Soon after the global launch event, Samsung announced the India pricing of the Galaxy Note 9, and the device quickly went on pre-orders. Today, Samsung officially launched the smartphone in India at an event in Delhi. It will go on sale starting August 24 on Flipkart, Samsung Online Store, and offline retail channels.

The Galaxy Note 9 is offered in two storage options – 6GB RAM with 128GB storage priced at Rs 67,900, whereas the 8GB RAM with 512GB storage model priced at Rs 84,900. The new smartphone comes with an improved design featuring metal frame with chamfered edges, front and back glass, and relocated fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Note 9 now comes with a massive 4,000mAh battery, which is 700mAh bigger than the predecessor, the Galaxy Note 8. It also comes with fast charging, and wireless fast charging tech.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 specifications and features

The Galaxy Note 9 features a 6.4-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display (1440x2960pixels) resolution, and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. With Exynos 9810 octa-core SoC at heart, the smartphone is paired with 6GB/8GB RAM, and up to 512GB storage. A microSD card slot with support for up to 512GB is also present for further expansion, offering you to have up to 1TB space on your phone.

The cameras see an upgrade compared to the Galaxy Note 8. You now get the primary 12-megapixel camera with dual-aperture lens (f/1.5 – f/2.4), and the secondary sensor is also of 12-megapixel resolution, with a telephoto lens to enable 2X lossless optical zoom, and portrait mode for DSLR-like bokeh effects. The Galaxy Note 9 also comes with the ability to capture slow-motion videos at 960fps in HD resolution. Up front is an 8-megapixel camera with auto-focus for selfies and video calling.

The highlight of the Note-series is the S Pen stylus, and Samsung has given it the biggest upgrade so far. It is now Bluetooth enabled, allowing you to use the S Pen as a remote shutter for camera, play pause songs, skip tracks and more.

In terms of connectivity, you get dual-SIM card support, 4G VoLTE for HD voice calling, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. Samsung has also included Apple iPhone X-like 3D facial recognition technology and an Animoji-like feature called AR Emoji. In the software department, it runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, with Samsung’s custom UI on top.

Other features such as Samsung Pay for cashless payments, IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos audio enhancement, a heart-rate sensor, and Samsung Knox for added security are a part of the package. You also get improved Bixby voice assistant, support for Live translation in different Indian languages such as Hindi, Gujarati, and Punjabi among others.
