Bixby 20 launched

Electronics giant Samsung is likely to launch the second version of its digital voice assistant platform, Bixby, the Bixby 2.0 with its upcoming Galaxy Note 9. The company has been working on revamping Bixby for quite some time. As reported by SamMobile, the company first talked about Bixby 2.0 last year when it hinted at a “major update” for Bixby. This statement indicated a much-needed step in the right direction for Samsung after it launched the Bixby. The reason for this is because Bixby was lagging behind in a number of core functions that its competition could do at the time.

The company hinted at a “bold reinvention” of the platform where it would turn Bixby into an intelligence tool from your average digital assistant that would perform basic functions. As pointed by the report, Gray G Lee, the head of AI Center at Samsung Research stated that the company is working hard on the re-imagination.

The company is likely to launch the new platform with its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 reiterating what DJ Koh, the CEO for Samsung’s mobile division. The company also added that it will continue to setup up AI centers in different parts of works while keeping a look out at any mergers or acquisitions of any new and promising companies that would help Samsung crack Bixby.

The company has not revealed any technical details about Bixby 2.0 but added that it packs “enhanced noise resistance capability”, improved natural language processes and faster response time. Bixby 2.0 is likely to be an extremely important update for Samsung if it has to enter the Smart Speaker market and compete with the existing heavyweights such as Amazon and Google.

This new development comes right after it was announced that Samsung will bring Bixby to smart home devices such as fridges etc. Samsung has not issued any official statement at the time of writing about Bixby 2 or any launch dates for its upcoming flagship smartphone.
