Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is expected to launch on August 9, two weeks ahead of the launch of previous Galaxy Note model. The smartphone is being tipped to feature major improvements in the camera department while retaining the design of its predecessor. Noted tipster OnLeaks has shared 3D renders of Galaxy Note 9 based on CAD renders of the smartphone. The renders posted in collaboration with 91mobiles show Galaxy Note 9 will be a major departure from Galaxy S9 when it comes to design. The unofficial renders show that Galaxy Note 9 will retain the design of its predecessor, but offer a repositioned fingerprint. The render seems to be inline with rumors which hinted at Samsung retaining Galaxy Note 8 design to cut cost. Also Read - Samsung phone price drop: Check new prices of Galaxy M31s, M11, and M01

The front of the device as seen from the render is pretty much indistinguishable from that of Galaxy Note 8. It is not surprising since Galaxy Note 9 being an iterative update was never expected to bring new design to the forefront. However, the back of the device seems like a cross between the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9, and can even be termed as ugly.

It features the glass back with the dual rear cameras placed vertically like the Galaxy Note 8. However, the fingerprint sensor is now placed below the camera modules, which should make it reachable but seems poor in terms of design choice, once again. The sensor also seems to be quite small raising questions about its accuracy and response time.

The render further confirms that the Galaxy S10 and not Galaxy Note 9 will be the first Samsung smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. The volume rocker and power button are placed at the left side, while the dedicated Bixby button is on the right. The smartphone does retain the 3.5mm audio jack, which is a welcome difference from most other smartphones in the market.

The renders suggest the Galaxy Note 9 will measure 161.9×76.3×8.8mm in dimensions, which means it will be wider, thicker and shorter than its predecessor. The smartphone is expected to feature a display measuring roughly 6.3-inches and the extra thickness is being owed to bigger 3,850mAh battery.

The camera is expected to be identical to that of Galaxy S9+ with dedicated zoom lens, and variable aperture on primary sensor. Bloomberg reported last week that Samsung is planning major camera updates this year with the launch of Galaxy Note 9 to play catch up with the likes of HTC U12+ and Huawei P20 Pro.

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to use Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset or Exynos 9810 depending on market. It will likely come with 6GB of RAM, and up to 256GB storage. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 9 will be IP68 water and dust resistant, and include support for wireless charging and S Pen.

Ahead of the launch, there are also reports doing the rounds that Galaxy Note 9 will come with a new user interface called Crown UX. If Samsung has decided to go ahead with this design then it is easy to say that the South Korean company is favoring functionality over form since this design is falls short of the benchmark set by Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 8.
