A recent leak claimed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is likely to boast five physical buttons. This fifth button would be in addition to the volume rocker, power button, and the dedicated Bixby button. Now, another leak online reiterates this claim, and also states what this button could be used for.

According to Korean news outlet Herald, Samsung recently filed a trademark for for “perfect capture technology”, which is undoubtedly linked to the fifth button. As for functionality, it could either be used as a camera shutter button or an easy way to capture screenshots, Android Authority reports.

A dedicated camera shutter button could be similar to what we see on Sony’s Xperia smartphones. In essence, a user is likely to be able to quickly open the camera app with a double tap, and later adjust the focus before clicking a photo. Additionally, the button is also likely to let users record video using the button.

A dedicated button to capture screenshots sounds a bit of an overkill. That said, reports claim Samsung is working on Bixby being able to capture information from screengrabs. That explains why Samsung could be making it easy for users to capture more screenshots.

There remains a bit of mystery around the functionality of the fifth button. But the presence of the button has all but been confirmed. We will anyway not have to wait long for an official announcement. If reports are to be believed, Samsung is planning on unveiling its flagship phablet on August 9. Alongside, the company is also expected to announce the next-generation Gear S4 smartwatch.
