Bluetooth-powered S Pen
The S Pen (also known as the stylus) has always been the USP of the Samsung Galaxy Note series, and the latest S Pen is more capable and feature-filled than ever before. It now comes with Bluetooth capabilities, which let you use it as a remote to control slideshows and presentations, or even as a remote trigger for the camera. Of course, you can also continue to use it for its typical functionality as a stylus too.
Lens smudge detection
This unique feature can detect if your rear camera lens has grime on it, and a prompt in the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 camera app will tell you to wipe the lens clean before you take pictures. It’ll help you get better pictures, or rather, not have your pictures spoiled by grime and smudges you may not have noticed.
Plenty of storage
If you’re someone who likes to (or needs to) keep a lot of files and data on your smartphone, then the storage variants and expandable storage capability of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will appeal to you. The phone comes with a 512GB internal storage variant, and also allows up to 512GB micro-SD cards to be used, giving you an incredible 1TB of potential storage on your smartphone. More 4K videos!
DeX loses the dock
Samsung DeX isn’t new, and the feature that allows you to seamlessly link your phone to a large screen for a desktop-like experience is fairly unique in the smartphone space right now. And while DeX used a dock thus far, you can now connect the phone to an external screen directly using a dongle to connect the phone to an HDMI port using its USB Type-C port. It’s a good way to extend you phone to offer a computer-like experience.
Water-Carbon cooling system
This feature is perhaps the most unique, but also one that will help allay fears of overheating that can cause the battery to do unpleasant things (remember the Galaxy Note 7?). The new water-carbon cooling system will help keep the phone cool, which will be particularly useful when playing games such as the graphics-intensive Fortnite, and generally pushing the phone in terms of performance. Keeping the phone cool will allow it to not only maintain performance levels, but will also keep the 4,000mAh battery safe.
Wireless charging hub
Alright, wireless charging isn’t that big a deal. But the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is supported by the new Samsung wireless charging hub, which not only lets you fast-charge the phone wirelessly, but also allows you to charge a second device (such as a smartwatch) alongside the phone.
