As part of its renewed focus on the mid-range segment in India, Samsung has launched the new Galaxy On8 at Rs 16,990. The device will be an online-exclusive, and will be available to buy on Flipkart and Samsung’s online store. The USP is its 6-inch super AMOLED screen. Apple Q3 Earnings
Although iPhone sales might be slowing down, Apple’s revenue from services continues to grow, hitting an all-time high in the latest earnings call. Apple also announced that it has sold 41.3 million iPhones in the quarter ending June 30, 2018.
BSNL launches Rs 995 broadband plan
The impending launch of Reliance’s Jio Gigafiber broadband internet service has caused BSNL to launch a new competitively priced broadband plan of its own. The new Rs 995 plan offers 20Mbps download speeds with an FUP of 200GB per month.
WhatsApp Payments hits a new hurdle in its roll out plans
Although WhatsApp Payments is finally out of beta and has signed up many new banking partners for its UPI-based payments service, the company has hit a regulatory hurdle. The Indian Government has directed it to set up a local office in order to be able to offer the payments service through its platform.
Flipkart Plus membership service launched
Flipkart is taking on Amazon Prime with its latest offering, called Flipkart Plus. The service won’t come with a fee, and will instead reward regular customers with rewards points, free shipping and early access to certain deals and sales.
Huawei overtakes Apple in global smartphone shipments
Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has leapfrogged Apple to take the second spot in global smartphone shipments behind Samsung. Huawei’s leadership in China, along with its strong position in India, has been the major factor behind its success.
