The Galaxy S10 was expected to be the first smartphone from Samsung to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. However, now a new rumor claims that the Korean smartphone maker could launch its first take on the technology through two mid-range smartphones, which are being dubbed as the Galaxy P30 and Galaxy P30+.

The news comes courtesy of a tweet from the popular Chinese leakster @MMDDJ, which was spotted by SmartPrix. The tweet mentioned the device to come with a model number of SM-G6200, which was later confirmed to be the Galaxy P30 smartphone by another leakster.

That said, the @MMDDJ did mention that the Galaxy P30 smartphones will be featuring an optical in-display fingerprint sensor instead of Qualcomm’s ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, which the Galaxy S10 is said to flaunt. The reason behind this could be as simple as Samsung wanting to save the high-end technology for its flagship smartphone.

Interestingly, the Galaxy P30 and P30+ have also been touted to come with an LCD display, instead of an AMOLED panel, which is generally what is used with in-display fingerprint sensors. Besides that, there’s very little we know about the Galaxy P30 and Galaxy P30+. However, we’re expecting more information to follow in the coming weeks and months, regarding the devices’ specifications along with a possible launch date.

Samsung had mentioned earlier in the year that it is changing its strategy to focus more on mid-range smartphones and bringing new innovative features to the category. The company is taking this step in order to compete better with Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo that have taken the market by storm. The Galaxy P30 is a good example of a mid-range smartphone which will offer premium features. Not just that, the company has also taken the same route with the triple camera setup, which was also touted to debut with the Galaxy S10, but was featured on the recently launched Galaxy A7.
