As expected, Samsung has today launched a new smartphone in China. This new smartphone is essentially a watered down version of last year’s flagship Galaxy S8, and is dubbed ‘Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition’. The smartphone will go on sale in China from June 1, priced at RMB 3,999 (Rs. 42,600 approximately).

In line with previous leaks, the new Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition looks like last year’s Samsung Galaxy S8. You get the curvy body with the front entirely dominated by the edge-to-edge Infinity Display. At the back, the camera module is placed at the center with the LED flash, and fingerprint sensor on either sides.

Buyers will no doubt feel a tad disappointed with the placement of the fingerprint sensor. With the Galaxy S8 users complained about accidentally touching the camera lens when trying to unlock the device. Samsung fixed the issue on this year’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ by placing the sensor below the camera module.

Samsung Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition specifications, features

As far as specifications are concerned, the new Samsung smartphone flaunts a 5.8-inch FHD+ (2220×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity display. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC paired with Adreno 512 GPU, and 4GB of RAM. There is 64GB storage on offer that can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card.

Other features include a 3,000mAh battery with fast and wireless charging support, fingerprint sensor, and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots (hybrid setup), 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB Type-C. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo.

As mentioned, the new Samsung smartphone will be going on sale in China from June 1. In the meantime, the device is up for pre-orders at a special price of RMB 3,699 (Rs 39,410 approximately). Buyers will be able to choose from black, and Burgundy Red colors. There is currently no word on whether Samsung has any plans of launching the Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition in India.
