With the Galaxy Note 9 launched last month, we are now slowly turning our heads in anticipation towards the Galaxy S10 which is touted to launch early next year. Being the 10th edition in the Galaxy S series, the smartphone is expected to carry some interesting features, one of which is said to be an in-display fingerprint sensor. While Samsung was earlier rumored to puts its own spin on the fingerprint authentication technology, a new rumor now suggests it to be employing Qualcomm’s expertise for its next flagship smartphone.

According to a new report from ETnews, the Samsung Galaxy S10 will be coming with Qualcomm’s latest ultrasonic fingerprint reader underneath its display. The technology is the third-generation of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sense ID, which the company had first introduced back in 2015. Apart from providing the technology, Qualcomm will also be working closely with Taiwan-based component suppliers, General Interface Solutions (GIS) and O-Film in order to meet Samsung’s huge demands.

Qualcomm seems to have made a lot of improvements to its Sense ID technology since its announcement three years ago. Samsung believes that the ultrasonic technology will give its smartphone an edge over it competition, as it has less influence on the screen structure and its image quality. Besides that, the ultrasonic soundwaves it uses also enable 3D scanning for better accuracy and brings in support for gesture controls. Qualcomm even states the technology to work underwater.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S10 at MWC 2019 in February. Sticking to current trends, the smartphone is also touted to feature a bezel-less design and a triple camera setup at the back, like the Huawei P20 Pro. Samsung is also expected to launch three variants this time around. That said, we still have a long way to go and expect more rumors and leaks to surface in the next few months.
