Samsung recently launched the Galaxy A7 as its first smartphone with triple rear camera setup. With Galaxy A7, the South Korean giant is following on the footsteps of Chinese smartphone maker Huawei, which was the first to introduce a smartphone with three cameras on the back. With LG also set to launch the V40 ThinQ with triple-camera setup in South Korea, and Huawei adding two more devices in the form of Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro on October 16, Samsung’s flagship will be the next major device to feature triple-camera setup. At MWC 2018 next year, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S10, and it is rumored to arrive in three different variants. The leaks so far claim that only the higher-end version will have triple rear camera setup, while the smaller model is expected to stick with dual rear cameras. While an incomplete specifications for Galaxy S10’s dual camera system leaked earlier, a new purported leak hints at how the triple camera setup could work on the Galaxy S10. The new leak suggests the primary camera on the Galaxy S10 will remain unchanged at 12-megapixel, and have a pixel size of 1.4 micron. The main camera will also support dual aperture that varies from f/1.5 and f/2.4. This primary camera will support 78-degree wide-angle images and support optical image stabilization. The primary shooter is paired with a telephoto camera, which also gets a bump to 13-megapixels.

The telephoto camera will have 1 micron pixel size, 45-degree field of view, f/2.4 aperture and optical image stabilization. The new addition will be the 16-megapixel sensor, which will act as an ultra-wide angle shooter capable of capturing images with 123-degree field of view. This sensor lacks optical image stabilization, has 1 micron pixel size and f/1.9 aperture. The new sensor will shoot images like the one seen from the secondary sensor on LG G6 and LG V30 smartphones.

Samsung’s mobile chief DJ Koh has already revealed that next Galaxy flagship will bring major design changes as the product marks 10 years in the smartphone world. The leaks so far suggest the Galaxy S10 models, codenamed Beyond, will differ mainly in terms of their camera setup and placement of fingerprint sensor. One of the models in the lineup is also expected to support 5G, which could make it the first true 5G smartphone.
