After unveiling the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge at the MWC 2016 in Barcelona last month, Samsung has now launched both smartphones in India. One of the talking points of the smartphones is the front and back glass design and metal frame on the side, IP68 certification for water and dust resistance and the return of the microSD card slot. Samsung has also added a new Always On display that lets you peek and glance at the notifications and time without having to unlock the smartphone. Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge price: The Galaxy S7 32GB is priced at Rs 48,900, whereas the Galaxy S7 edge 32GB variant is priced at Rs 56,900. Pre-bookings for both smartphones start today and will go on till March 17. Those who pre-book the smartphones will get a free Gear VR headset. Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge specifications and features: Both smartphones are equipped with same hardware, except for the screen size and battery capacity. Both smartphones feature QHD Super AMOLED displays. While the Galaxy S7 comes with a 5.1-inch display the edge variant is equipped with a slightly larger 5.5-inch dual-edge curved display.
In India Samsung has opted to launch the Exynos 8890 octa-core chipset variants, which is paired with 4GB of RAM. A microSD card slot for further expansion is also present in the form of a hybrid SIM card slot. So you can either use it as a dual-SIM phone or a single SIM card with a microSD card slot. Both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge come in 32GB internal storage options.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge with a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual-pixel auto-focus, PDAF and optical image stabilization. With aperture of f/1.7 and larger 1.4 m pixels, Samsung claims the camera offers better low light photography than the Galaxy S6, which wasn’t a slouch either.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are equipped with 3,000mAh and 3,600mAh batteries with Quick Charge 2.0 and Wireless Fast Charging feature.
On the connectivity front, both smartphones support dual-SIM 4G LTE (hybrid SIM card slot), NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge run on Google s latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with TouchWiz UI running atop. Samsung has also added additional features on the Galaxy S7 edge to take full advantage of curved Edge display.
Samsung has also included support for a new Vulkan API gaming standard, which will be replacing OpenGL ES. The new API makes it easier for developers to create games for multiple platforms. Samsung says, with support for multi-threading, the games built on Vulkan API will be efficiently able to use smartphone s resources and ensure smooth running. It also comes with a game launcher mode, which not only optimizes the gaming performance, but also brings up gaming-specific buttons to easily capture screenshots or record the gaming sessions.
For the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge users, Samsung has come up with a new Samsung Concierge service. It gives users the privilege to direct chat with Samsung s help desk, pick and drop services and also a standby device if required.
Samsung has also launched a service that allows users to ship online, book a cab or flight, or order food form a single platform. The service is similar to YU s Around Yu service. For this, Samsung has currently tied up with companies such as Ibibo, Amazon, Ola and Mobikwik, with more partners expected soon.
Samsung will also be offering double voice and data to Vodafone Red customers for a period of six months to those who buy the new Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 edge.
