After launching a flagship device, manufacturers often announce variations under the same series and Samsung has been consistently following the trend with its Galaxy S series flagships. After the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Samsung was believed to announce the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active. Active series devices are rugged variants of the flagships. Ahead of the official announcements, we have come across the first leak around the upcoming Galaxy S8 Active smartphone. The leak reveals pretty much everything about the phone, right from the design to key specifications. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active was leaked in a hands-on video and a forums thread on Android Central. Though the thread seems to have been deleted by the user, some of the questions answered are still present. The thread was first spotted and reported by Android Police. The images leaked show the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active in a design which is very similar to the previous Active series smartphones. Though it comes with the S8 moniker, the design of the smartphone is drastically different from the Galaxy S8 series phones. The phone is also considerably thicker and bulkier. The first thing one notices about the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is that the device comes with a polycarbonate body. There is none of the sleek metal on the phone except for the edges. Gone is the Infinity Display and instead, the device comes with a regular 5.8-inch screen. The changes are most likely to enhance the durability and ruggedness of the smartphone. Unsurprisingly, the smartphone will run Android Nougat OS out-of-the-box and comes with a Bixby button on the sides. The one major difference from previous Samsung Galaxy Active models is the lack of an underwater camera mode. Users get just the one camera option even for underwater photography. The smartphone is most likely to be powered by the same Snapdragon 835 chipset running in the Samsung Galaxy S8 series. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will reportedly come with 64GB internal storage coupled with 4GB RAM. On the rear is a 12-megapixel snapper whereas an 8-megapixel shooter is on the front of the smartphone. The smartphone will also feature Qi wireless charging. The highlight of the phone apart from the ruggedness is the battery, which at 4,000mAh is the highest of all the devices in the Samsung Galaxy series currently. There is no physical home button and the fingerprint scanner is on the back – you guessed it right, next to the camera. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active comes bearing the model number SM-G892A and is likely to soon be announced considering the device is already in the testing phase. Currently, all the excitement for Samsung is centered around the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, now confirmed to arrive on August 23, exactly a month away. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active could be launched around the same time or before, though it is unlikely that Samsung will launch the two phones together and steal the Galaxy Note 8 thunder. The price of the device is unknown though considering apart from the display and the body, all the specifications are shared with the flagship, it would be safe to say that the phone will be a premium device.
