Samsung recently launched the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagship devices which will be able to consumers early May. The Galaxy S8+ is the larger variant and comes with certain advanced specifications. There is also a 128GB variant with 6GB RAM that was launched in specific markets including South Korea. Lee Jae-yun, an analyst from Yuanta Securities, a Korean securities firm has pegged sales of Galaxy S8+ to outdo Galaxy S8. This is understandably attributed to the additional features in the larger S8+ variant. According to reports, Galaxy S8+ units will cross sales of 27.19 million units whereas Galaxy S8 sales will be around 23.22 million units. Of the total 50.41 million units expected to be sold, Galaxy S8+ accounts for over 50 percent. So far, in markets like South Korea where customers have already started using devices, the lean is clearly towards Galaxy S8+. The larger 128GB/6GB RAM version is proving to be the most successful. In Korea, Samsung has placed shipments on hold owing to supply issues of the device. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ pre-orders crossed the million-units mark as reports suggested, though no official confirmation was made by Samsung. Samsung did however confirm pre-orders of over 700,000 units in Korea. In India, pre-orders for both the devices have commenced though the final numbers are still unknown.
Multiple analysts predicted Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ sales would cross Galaxy S7 numbers in the early days. After the Galaxy Note 7 disaster, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ performance signaled the make it or break it deal for Samsung. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have not been without their own share of controversy. Users in Korea complained of red tinted displays, citing issues with the phone. Theories from faulty displays to processors floated around for a while before Samsung provided a solution. The complaints were dismissed by Samsung, instead asking users to change device display settings manually.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are up for pre-orders in India with shipments to commence May 5. The pre-order and pre-registration figures are still under wraps. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are priced at Rs 57,900 and Rs 64,900, respectively.
