All eyes are set for the next Samsung flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, which is assumed to turnaround the company s current flaming condition owing to the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. Details and features about the purported smartphone have been doing the rounds of internet for quite some time and now the latest rumor to emerge suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S8 could feature up to 6GB of RAM. Although this year we have seen smartphones such as the OnePlus 3 and LeEco Le Max 2, it would be a first for Samsung to pack that much of RAM. Based on the latest rumors, the Samsung Galaxy S8 could come with 6GB of RAM and could be packed with 256GB of onboard storage. By far, there is no word if the smartphone will come equipped with microSD card slot for further storage expansion. This will mark a shift from the company s earlier offering with the Galaxy S7 which offered up to 64GB of onboard storage with an option to further expand it to 256GB. The difference in variants will also be in terms of the processors used. It is expected that the Galaxy S8 variants will be powered by Exynos chipset and the newest Snapdragon 835 chipset which promises higher performance with a 40 percent reduction in power consumption compared to existing chipsets. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to feature a major redesign with bezel-less display offering 4K resolution. Some rumors indicate that the smartphone could come with pressure-sensitive display, something which we have seen on the new Apple iPhones. The technology enables one to execute more functions with tap-and-hold on the display. It is expected that the Galaxy S8 will be available in 5.5-inch display size and a 6.2-inch display size. While Samsung will continue with its dual-curved edge design and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the Galaxy S8, it is expected to pack a special optical fingerprint sensor layered on the front instead of a physical home button. This could further add to the smartphone s near bezel-less appearance.
In terms of camera, the Galaxy S8 is unlikely to follow Apple s footsteps and introduce a dual-camera module. It will instead be equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera along with an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies. ALSO READ: Samsung may use its own fingerprint sensors on upcoming smartphones
As the Galaxy S8 is rumored to be one of the first smartphones to be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chipset, it also suggests that it will come with support for Quick Charging 4.0 that is claimed to offer up to five hours of usage or more with just five minutes of charging. The Galaxy S8 is expected to pack a 4,200mAh battery and will continue on the wireless charging feature which was introduced with the Galaxy S6. The smartphone is expected to debut at the Mobile World Congress, 2017 and could hit the shelves by April.
