While we are still weeks away from the official launch of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, the rumor mill has done its job pretty well, revealing almost all the specifications and features of the two smartphones. Earlier this week, we got a glimpse into Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphones, thanks to the series of leaked hands-on photos. If those images did not satiate your eyes; a second batch of photos has now been leaked, leaving nothing to imagination. The fresh images detail not only the display, but show off the smartphones in their entirety, down to the last detail on connectivity ports.
So far, we are aware that this year Samsung will be moving away from the ‘edge’ branding and embracing the ‘+’ symbol for the larger variant. Based on previous rumors and image leaks, there will be two variants, dubbed Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Both models will feature almost identical set of features with changes in terms of display and perhaps battery capacity. The new Galaxy Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are also expected to be the first set of Android smartphones to run the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor that promises 27 percent more performance with 40 percent less power consumption. Depending on the region of launch, Samsung is also said to consider using the equivalent Exynos 8895 SoC in the new smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ specifications and features
Based on the latest image leaks, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be Type-C based smartphones but will continue with the standard 3.5mm headphone port. If one is to talk about the display design, it is known that the Galaxy S8 will feature a 5.8-inch display while the Galaxy S8+ will feature a 6.2-inch display. It is worth mentioning that recently Samsung’s patent for an ‘Infinity Display’ has come into light. The patent talks about an aspect ratio of 18:9, indicating the new smartphones could boast displays which are twice as tall as they are wide. This also falls in tune with the change in display size as compared to last year’s Galaxy S7. What stays the same is that despite a change in branding, the spilling displays continue on both models, albeit with narrower bezels.
Samsung is also getting rid of a physical home button with its new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones. Instead of a front home button, the smartphones now feature on-screen navigation buttons. For biometric authentication, there is now a dedicated scanner at the rear panel. There have been reports about Samsung adding an additional iris scanner for more security.
Rest of the specifications include 4GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB onboard storage options, microSD card slot, 12-megapixel Dual-Pixel rear camera along with LED flash, and an 8-megapixel auto-focus selfie camera. On the software front, both models are expected to run Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with a layer of TouchWiz UI on top.
