Samsung has had a whirlwind of a time this year with the Galaxy Note 7 debacle but all eyes are turned towards the upcoming Galaxy S8, which is due sometime early next year. The Galaxy S8 has been making news for quite some time now and it looks like Samsung is bringing a lot to its plate. Just a few days back, we came across reports which suggested that Samsung would be opting for a selfie camera with auto-focus. The latest development on the rumor mill is that the Galaxy S8 could feature a pair of stereo speakers. This news comes from FoneArena which reports that Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with stereo speakers which would be a first for the company. In addition to this, the report says that the Galaxy S8 s stereo speakers will come with US audio company HARMAN branding. This speculation goes in line with the recent news about Samsung agreeing to acquire HARMAN in a deal worth $8 billion. This acquisition was however linked to how Samsung might start foraying into the connected car space. Moreover, a Samsung representative had confirmed before that its Galaxy series smartphones will use HARMAN s technology but not before 2018. So the possibility of the stereo speakers in the Galaxy S8 bearing HARMAN branding seems a little dicey right now.
If the rumors do turn out to be true, then Samsung would be going head-to-head with its arch rival Apple, as the latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus both come with stereo speakers. On the iPhone 7 series, one speaker is placed in the bottom while the other one in the earpiece. However, there is no word on how Samsung would be deploying the stereo speaker technology on the Galaxy S8. If this rumor turns out to be true, Samsung would join the likes of HTC and LG, which have offered stereo speakers on their latest smartphones.
There have been numerous reports suggesting features on the Galaxy S8. Samsung is widely believed to be launching two versions of the Galaxy S8, with one featuring a 5.7-inch curved display while the other featuring a 6.2-inch bezel-less display. While Samsung is suspected to introduce a selfie camera with auto-focus on the Galaxy S8, it also has plans to bring a dual camera setup which would utilize Qualcomm s clear sight technology. Its dual-camera setup could be homegrown and engineered by SEMCO. Samsung has also been rumored to go big on its AI digital assistant by giving gender identity which is speculated to be Bixby for male and Kestra for female.
