As we inch closer to the anticipated unveiling of the new Galaxy S9 lineup, new information will keep trickling until February 25 when the smartphones will be demoed at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018). Now, the latest detail comes from an online tipster who has claimed that the upcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be Samsung’s most expensive series ever. The tipster, who goes by the Twitter handle @Ricciolo1, revealed through a tweet that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be launched on February 25, and the duo will be the most expensive Galaxy ever. Also Read - Galaxy S21 FE to support 25W charging but will Samsung put it in the box?
The last flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, retail at Rs 53,900 and Rs 58,900 respectively. As for the Galaxy Note 8, the offering is at Rs 67,900. If the latest rumor is anything to go by, we could see the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ follow the iPhone X league and come at a premium. However, given the South Korean giant’s recent defeat in the Indian smartphone market by China-based Xiaomi, it is unlikely Samsung would want to lose the edge it has over Apple when it comes to pricing.
Based on what we have come across so far, the upcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are likely to have minor design changes and thus will be incremental upgrades to their predecessors. With a slightly narrower chin, the phones may boast a higher screen-to-body ratio.
One of the talking points of the new Galaxy phones will be their camera which is likely to come equipped with a variable aperture. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are expected to feature a 12-megapixel rear camera with a variable aperture that can adjust from f/1.5 to f/2.4 depending on the available light. Notably, the Galaxy S9+ is expected to feature an additional 12-megapixel fixed focus sensor at the back to complete the dual-camera module. Up front, both the models are likely to come with an 8-megapixel camera. One of the latest reports indicates that the smartphones could come with a new ‘Intelligent Scan‘ feature that is likely to combine face unlock with iris scanning for authentication.
At the core of the new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC or its equivalent Exynos 9810 SoC paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. Other specifications include a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S9 and a 6.2-inch display on the Galaxy S9+. As a report on GizmoChina states, both the models could be powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
