The day kick started with fresh leaks about the yet-to-be-announced Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone. In tune with the existing competition with Reliance Jio, Vodafone introduced new voice and data plans for the customers. Amazon India, on the other hand, introduced some impressive cash backs on Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 smartphones. In addition to all this, what particularly made news was that three-year-old Xiaomi added another feather to its hat by becoming the top vendor in the country in Q3, 2017 sharing space with Samsung. Xiaomi gains top spot in India
As per latest IDC data, Xiaomi became the top smartphone vendor in India, sharing the position with Samsung at 23.5 percent. Three out of top five smartphones sold in the country were Xiaomi smartphones in Q3, 2017. The success is attributed to 9.2 million smartphone shipments in the said quarter, owing to the immense popularity of Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4, and Redmi 4A smartphones. The company has also become the fastest growing smartphone brand in the country with a growth rate of nearly 300 percent year-on-year.

Samsung Galaxy S9 leak
Samsung’s next-in-line flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S9, showed up in leaks today. Spotted on Geekbench, the smartphone could pack 4GB of RAM and run Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. The Galaxy S9 duo is expected to be launched as early as January, 2018. Samsung recently introduced its next-gen Exynos 9810 chipset, which is said to be 20 percent faster than its predecessor currently powering the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Although there is no official word,, it is expected the next set of Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will run the newest chipset.
Vodafone new plans
Vodafone introduced three new plans earlier today. The new plans compete with some of Reliance Jio’s popular plans. The Rs 458 and Rs 509 offer unlimited voice calling along with data benefits. Both plans offer unlimited local and STD calls, free roaming, 100 SMS per day, and 1GB of 4G / 3G data every day. However, the two differ only in terms of validity. The Rs 458 plan is valid for 70 days, while the Rs 509 plan comes with a validity of 84 days.
In addition to these two, Vodafone also introduced a ‘Chhota Champion’ plan for its prepaid users. Priced at Rs 38, the integrated voice and data plan offers users 100 local and STD calling minutes along with 100MB 3G/4G data for a period of 28 days. The plan is available for pan India subscribers.

As part of the ‘Nokia Mobile Week’ on Amazon, two of HMD Global‘s smartphones are available at impressive discounts until November 17. Nokia 6, which is priced at Rs 14,999, is available with Rs 2,500 cashback offer for Amazon Prime users paying with Amazon Pay balance. Using other payment option can get you Rs 500 cashback. Non-prime members can avail up to Rs 1,500 cashback using Amazon Pay balance. For Nokia 8, Prime members can avail up to Rs 1,500 cashback using Amazon Pay balance. It also comes with an exchange offer of up to Rs 1,000. There’s a No Cost EMI option on the Nokia 8 with three, six, and nine months tenure. It is originally priced at Rs 36,999.

Facebook Stories, which does not enjoy the kind of popularity Instagram Stories does, today merged with Messenger Day. Earlier, the Stories posted on Facebook and Messenger would appear separately. Starting today, your daily video journals will now be integrated as ‘Stories’ and will appear on Facebook as well as Messenger.
OnePlus doubles market share in Q3, 2017
In addition to Xiaomi achieving the top spot in the Indian smartphone market, IDC’s data also revealed that OnePlus gained 25 percent market share, in Q3, 2017. In the premium segment, OnePlus recorded 62.2 percent market share, maintaining its lead over incumbent smartphone giants Apple and Samsung in online channels.
In India, its share stood at 12 percent of the premium smartphone category. OnePlus also witnessed its best-ever quarterly sales in the country in the given quarter. Additionally, the data showed the OnePlus 5 was the top-selling smartphone in the given quarter, ahead of Apple and Samsung with 24.74 percent share. OnePlus grew 120 percent y-o-y during Q3, 2017 and debuted at number 8 in the list of top 10 brands in India.
