The war between Samsung and Apple flagship devices seem age old now! Any new release from either of the brands is invariably pitted against each other. When the Galaxy S9 released last week, invariably again comparisons were made. Some even said that the Samsung smartphones were capable of killing the iPhone X market. Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset in the US, and Exynos 9810 in most other markets. Now, a recently released benchmark result reveals that while the Exynos 9810 SoC beats Snapdragon 845, it falls well behind Apple’s A10 and A11 processors. Revealed by AnandTech in a benchmarking test of a Galaxy S9 demo handset, the Exynos 9810 turned out to be faster than its predecessor, Exynos 8895, but not as fast as Apple’s processors. These processors power the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
Per the benchmarking results, four single core test showed integer and floating point scores of 3,734 and 3,440 respectively for the Exynos 9810. Meanwhile, the A11 Bionic scored 4,630 and 3,958 respectively. In fact, the A10 Fusion with 4,007 points, scored better than the Samsung SoC for the Integer score. Interestingly, the Snapdragon 845 SoC fell behind the Exynos 9810 itself, as its integer and floating point scores stood at 2,718 and 2,041 respectively.
Further, a WebXPRT 2015 test was also conducted to analyze the benchmarks for the smartphones rather than the processor, which showed that the iPhone X and iPhone 8 score 352 and 349 respectively. The Samsung Galaxy S9+, on the other hand, could manage only 178 points.
The Qualcomm 845 SoC’s score of 291 did come a little closer to those of the iPhone models though. Meanwhile, Speedometer 2.0 result showed an even bigger gap. While the Galaxy S9+ scored 26.70 in the benchmark, the iPhone 8 scored 88.90 and iPhone X received 87.20 points. Here too, the Snapdragon 845 SoC managed a better score of 43.10.
Unfortunately for the Samsung fans, two-year-old iPhone 7 also managed to beat the Galaxy S9+ with Exynos SoC, in both the scores. Meanwhile, a Samsung spokesperson reportedly said that the demo unit at MWC was running special firmware that might not have been optimized. While these numbers do look disappointing, a final word will only be out once the official Galaxy S9 devices hit the market. The Samsung flagship smartphones are expected to be officially launched in India on March 6.
