Fresh details have emerged about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 which is expected to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018). Other than having an improved narrow-bezel display and a powerful chipset, the Galaxy S9 will reportedly borrow a feature from rival Apple to attract customers.

Korean publication ET News reports that the Galaxy S9 will feature dual speakers which will be placed at the top and bottom of the phone. The details emerge from accessory manufacturers and suppliers who claim that the upcoming flagship smartphone will be equipped with innovative functions.

Based on the sources, the Galaxy S9 and its larger counterpart Galaxy S9+ will come pre-installed with a ‘3D Emoji’ feature. We have already seen this feature, referred to as Animoji on the Apple iPhone X. The feature leverages the front camera’s mapping technique to replicate your facial movements onto an animated emoji of your choice. Users can then use these instead of emoticons in chat apps. As this requires an advanced front camera, the Galaxy S9 duo will leverage the front camera and also allow for a combined 3D facial recognition and iris recognition method for authentication.

In what would enhance the audio output on the smartphones, there will be additional speakers at the top and bottom. This has been added to reportedly enhance multimedia experiences such as gaming, videos, and music.

Improving the user experience and putting up a tougher battle against existing voice-controlled digital assistants, the Galaxy S9 duo will be powered by Bixby 2.0. The AI-enabled smart assistant is expected to be much more enhanced and provide assistance in services including shopping and finance. The smartphones will continue to feature a dedicated Bixby button.

Lastly, the report throws some light on the possible pricing of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. It is speculated that Samsung will aim at keeping the price of the smartphones lower than the price of the Galaxy Note 8, which is currently retailing at Rs 67,900. However, as some reports have indicated in the past, the Galaxy S9 duo is expected to be the most expensive from Samsung’s stable yet, with the price of the Galaxy S9+ going above $920 (approximately Rs 59,000).

As for specifications, the Galaxy S9 is expected to be equipped with a 5.8-inch quad HD+ Super AMOLED curved display while the Galaxy S9+ will boast a 6.2-inch display. Without much of of a change to the overall appearance, Samsung has reportedly thinned down the bezels to further enhance the display experience. The Galaxy S9 duo is said to be one of the first phones to run Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. The newer chipset is said to be faster than its predecessor and bring improvements to the graphics performance.

The camera is likely to be another highlight of the upcoming smartphones. Rumors indicate the Galaxy S9+ will be equipped with a pair of 12-megapixel Dual Pixel cameras with optical image stabilization at the back. Up front, there will be an 8-megapixel camera. The smartphones are expected to be water and dust resistant with IP68 rating. Samsung is further speculated to introduce a new ‘DeX Pad‘ and an improved fast wireless charger as additional accessories for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.
