Successor to last year s Galaxy Tab S3, the new Galaxy Tab S4 brings in nifty improvements under the hood. One of the major changes comes in the form of DeX support, a PC-like mode that Samsung has added to its smartphones and tablets. Earlier, you were required to connect the smartphone to a DeX dock to enable the mode. But that changes with the Tab S4 10.5, as you no longer require a dock to connect the tablet and enable DeX mode. Once the mode is enabled, apps will relaunch in resizable windows, making it easier for you to drag around. The tablet also supports two screens the main tablet screen, and an external monitor that you can connect over HDMI. Earlier, the DeX mode would disable the phone s screen, which is not the case now.

The 64GB Wi-Fi only model is priced at $650 (roughly Rs 44,500), whereas the 256GB variant is priced at $750 (approximately Rs 51,300). The shipping starts from August 10, but there is no word on when it will be launched in India. There is an LTE model also that will be available later, but no details are available. As for DeX, you can use it with the keyboard case that is sold separately for $150 (roughly Rs 10,300), or you can connect any other Bluetooth keyboard or mouse.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 10.5 specifications and features

As the name suggests, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 flaunts a massive 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display that runs at a resolution of 2560x1600pixels, and an aspect ratio of 16:10. This is an improvement compared to the Galaxy Tab S3 had a display with an aspect ratio of 3:4. The tablet also has thin bezels compared to the predecessor. Also, Samsung has done away with the physical home button, and capacitive Android navigation buttons, and its instead focusing on the on-screen ones.

Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC with an octa-core CPU, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 256GB onboard storage options. The tablet also comes with 13-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras. It boots Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, comes with 7,300mAh battery, has a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, a microSD card slot for expandable storage, and a 3.5mm headphone jack too.

For entertainment, Samsung has added quad speakers tuned by AKG and Dolby Atmos support. Unlike Apple that doesn t bundle the Apple Pencil along with the iPad Pro, Samsung has included the S Pen inside the box. And the usual S Pen tricks such as live messages, screen off memo, translating text, air command, are also available on the tablet. There is no fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication, but the tablet comes with an Iris scanner and Face Unlock feature.

Besides Google Assistant, there is Bixby voice support too, allowing you to speak to the tablet to get things done. Thankfully, there is no dedicated Bixby button, and you can summon the assistant simply by saying Hi Bixby.
