Samsung might be preparing to do away with the Gear branding for its wearable this year. The South Korean company trademarked the names “Galaxy Watch” and “Galaxy Fit” suggesting that it will not use Gear branding anymore. Now, there is further proof of Samsung doing away with the Gear branding after nearly five years of use.
Samsung has now submitted the “Galaxy Watch” logo in South Korea. The logo first spotted by GalaxyClub makes use of Samsung’s personalized font and does not reveal much about the wearable itself. The leaks so far indicate that Samsung Gear S4, the next wearable from the company, will be called Samsung Galaxy Watch instead. The device is expected to ship with a slightly refreshed design and a larger battery.
The next smartwatch from Samsung is also expected to pack a more efficient processor, which could lead to improved battery life. There are also rumors that Samsung will switch to Google’s Wear OS with its next smartwatch this year. This seems highly unlikely considering the investment it is making to push its Tizen operating system on devices like smart TV and wearable.
Like in the past, Samsung is expected to introduce the next version of its smartwatch in both a Sport and a Classic variant. The Classic version of the Galaxy Watch could be sold in two different watch sizes upon release. The smartwatch could be offered in black, gold and silver color options when it becomes available for purchase.

By switching from Samsung Gear to Samsung Galaxy Watch branding, the South Korean stands to benefit since the naming resonates well with a watch. In terms of the availability, the Galaxy Watch is expected to be announced at IFA 2018 in Berlin next month. However, there is also a possibility of Samsung launching the wearable alongside the Galaxy Note 9 at the New York event on August 9.
