We’ve been hearing for quite a while that Samsung is working on a round smartwatch pegged to be called the Gear A. The smartwatch is being positioned as the Apple Watch killer, and is expected to be unveiled on August 12 alongside the Galaxy Note 5. Now, Sammobile has got hold of a slew of specification details about the smartwatch, that reveals it will be running on a new Tizen OS and one variant will support 3G and voice calling. The report states that the Samsung Gear A smartwatch is likely to sport a round Super AMOLED display with 360×360 resolution. It is powered by an 1.2GHz Exynos 3472 dual-core chipset with 768MB RAM and a 450MHz Mali-400 MP4 GPU. It offers 4GB of internal storage and will have a 250mAh battery. Connectivity-wise, it will include built-in Wi-Fi (802.11n) and Bluetooth 4.1 support. The Samsung Gear A could be launched in two variants, with one variant supporting 3G and voice calling. As for sensors, it has GPS, accelerometer, gyro, barometer, as well as a heart rate monitor. The report also states that the Gear A will run on the company’s custom-built Tizen OS. Samsung has designed a special version of Tizen specifically for the round screen of the smartwatch.
From what we have heard so far, Samsung’s next smartwatch will feature rotating bezel that will be used for navigating through menus, recent apps, going through widgets, and notifications among other functions. Users will also be able to dismiss or snooze alarms, skip music tracks, accept or reject calls, and end active calls.
