As mentioned above, Samsung had quietly put up the Gear S smartwatch for preorders on its India eStore for a down payment of Rs 1,000. The smartwatch was launched alongside the Galaxy Note 4 phablet in India, and is priced at Rs 28,000. The report does not mention the name of the cities in which the smartwatch has been released or the name of the retail stores. We contacted Croma, and they told us that they do not have the Gear S in their store yet. However, when we contacted one of Samsung’s official retail stores in Mumbai, the device was available for sale. Samsung Gear S was unveiled at a pre-IFA event in Berlin this year. To recap on the specifications, it features a 2-inch Super AMOLED (360 480 pixels) display and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor paired with 512MB of RAM. Also featured is 4GB of internal storage, 300mAh battery that the company claims is good enough to survive two days, and IP67 certification that makes the smartwatch resistant to water and dust.
The smartwatch runs on Tizen and the highlight is that it can make calls without having to be connected to a smartphone. The smartwatch can also track fitness related activity and health information, receive or make calls, show notifications from paired smartphone, offer directions using HERE maps and work as an internet browser.
