Samsung has begun pre-bookings of the Gear S smartwatch in India on its official e-store with a down payment of Rs 1000. The availability of the device is not yet known, but the official price of the device is pegged at Rs 28,900, the balance of which the users will have to pay once the smartwatch is launched. The device was introduced in September at IFA, and just to recap on the specifications, the Gear S smartwatch features a 2-inch Super AMOLED (360 480 pixels) display and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor paired with 512MB of RAM. Also featured is 4GB of internal storage, 300mAh battery that the company claims is good enough to survive two days, and IP67 certification that makes the smartwatch resistant to water and dust. The smartwatch runs on Tizen and the highlight is that it can make calls without having to be connected to a smartphone. The smartwatch can also track fitness related activity and health information, receive or make calls, show notifications from paired smartphone, offer directions using HERE maps and work as an internet browser.
