A few Samsung Gear S3 users have reportedly been facing unusually fast battery draining. The South Korean company had promised that it will be rolling out a fix soon. Today, the company has released a new software update for the Gear S3 Frontier model to resolve the drain issue.
The R760XXU2CRK2 build that has been released for the Gear S3 Frontier is only 10.17MB in size. The update is available for users in the US and Europe. It is expected to hit other markets in the coming days. According to Samsung, Gear S3 users faced the issue only when it was connected to certain smartphone models. The new update also improves reliability when using the Galaxy Apps Store for downloading apps.
The update can be installed automatically. To install it manually, one needs to initiate the process through the app for the smartwatch. Android users can navigate to Settings -> About Gear -> Update Gear in the Galaxy Wearable. Gear S3 iOS users, on the other hand, can also follow the same steps through Samsung Galaxy Watch app.
Samsung had launched the Gear S3 smartwatch in the last quarter of 2016. The smartwatch was praised by reviewers for its multi-day battery performance. Few months later, Gear S3 users started encountering battery draining issue.

The problem was resolved for most users when a revised firmware followed by another software update was released earlier this year. However, in the previous month, a large number of Gear S3 users took to Samsung forums to complain that the problem had returned once again. At the time, the South Korean company had confirmed that it would be releasing a software update soon. Finally, the issue has been permanently resolved at least for Gear S3 Frontier users. The company is expected to release a similar update for the Gear S3 Sport soon.
